The Journey of Mankind

Since ancient times in hallowed halls The Word was ever told That man is God and God is all And heaven makes the mould

In Eden’s day, man’s paradise

The gods walked hand in hand

With lion, lamb, and unicorn

And husbanded the land

And then the Fall and man took mind

And heaven withdrew a distance

Mankind they say then forged his way

Without the gods’ insistence

Then came a time of trial and tears

In accord with heavenly season

And cosmic masters graced mankind

With intellect and reason

Free will appeared and in its wake

Discovering cosmic laws

By learning from perceived effect

And making good the cause

Eons passed and minds grew strong

With nature as the guide

Through tribulation trial and test

Man couldn’t be denied

The price it seems of such a gift

Was dimming of the means

Of seeing through to higher realms

To embrace celestial scenes

But minds have limits; thoughts are caged

The intellect is bound

To build on that already known

And that already found

The time has come to rise again

To meet man’s next conception

To open up, see through once more

The doorways of perception

Once more the grace of heaven’s embrace

And to see the Holy Light

No longer ruled by creed or rote

But served by clear true sight

Thus we go midst joys and woes

To landscapes yet unseen

Through heavenly paths of ebbs and flows

Towards the life serene

And so take heart and play your part

In the symphony divine

For soon you’ll know without a doubt

Your place in the Grand Design.

Thinking raised us from the mire

Of instinct, tooth and claw

Reason took us to the heights

Of science, logic and law
